Here are three things you should know to keep your family from being exposed to salmonella currently making the rounds in peanut-butter containing foods.
- The problem is limited to processed foods containing peanut butter. The plant did not produce jarred peanut butter for the do-it-yourself crowd, so any peanut butter you have in the house should be fine.
- The FDA maintains a list of all the products known to contain the tainted peanut butter. All of them have been voluntarily recalled by their manufacturers. Consult the lFDA's "naughty" list, and throw out or return what you shouldn't be eating.
- The Peanut Council made their own "nice" list. The industry organization has their own list of peanut-butter containing products that appear to be safe. Keep in mind that this recall could expand, but if you have products from this list, they are probably safe - this list is not based on product testing but on who was supplied with peanut butter from this particular plant.
