Quick meals made a little greener: Turn the pizza delivery box into plates
By Jennifer August 18, 2009
File this under both "Why didn't I think of that!" and "Hey, I can do that at home!" Eco Incorporated has launched Green Box, a delivery pizza box with a perforated lid that can be divided into four plates. There's a lesson here for those of us who find ourselves with a standard pizza box, too. When we're desperate or tired enough to order pizza, the last thing my family wants to do is wash dishes, but since we don't keep disposable dishes or paper towels around the house, we end up using (and washing!) plates. Next time, I'm grabbing the scissors and cutting up the lid.
But this renders the lid unrecyclable. Often the lid is the only part of the box that is recyclable, because the bottom half usually is ruined by grease (which recycling programs cannot accept.) A better solution would be to ask the pizza place to put extra waxed paper or even foil under your pie. If the box stays grease-free, you can recycle it!
